Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) is an option to pay customs duties, taxes and fees at the time the shipment is booked or confirmed instead of upon arrival into the destination country.

You may see this option on a seller’s website, Arta’s checkout, or receive an email after the shipment is confirmed asking you to choose your delivery option. Customs clearance requirements vary depending on the destination country. Carriers will likely still need to contact you via phone or email to confirm your identity in the form of an ITN or Social Security number, but you should NOT need to submit additional payment for the shipment. A broker may be required depending on the destination, whether through the courier (FedEx, UPS, DHL) or an external broker of your preference. Please contact Arta (hello@arta.io) immediately if you provided payment via DDP and receive an additional payment request from the carrier.

Why Leverage DDP?

• DDP often expedites customs clearance because costs are already paid
• DDP avoids additional fees related to storage and handling while customs processes your shipment
• DDP also nearly eliminates shipments being returned to sender if payments are not remitted promptly.

If DDP optional is offered, but not selected and paid within the time allotted, the shipment will revert to Standard Delivery, also known as Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) or Delivered Taxes Unpaid (DTU), and you will be contacted upon the shipment’s arrival into your country to arrange payment.

Please Note: While DDP often expedites delivery and facilitates completion of customs documentation, you or the seller may also be contacted for additional forms depending on the item in transit and/or the regulations set by the origin and destination countries.
